Whispers of Autumn

Hi Friends,

Are You Ready for Fall?

Are you ready for fall? I sure am! I know we are still experiencing warmer temperatures but I’m ready for the cool mornings, cozy evenings, warm blankets, hot beverages, and the beautiful, calming colors that come with the season. There’s just something about fall that makes me want to light candles, turn on the fireplace, and snuggle up on the couch with a good fall movie, read a book or watch one of my favorite influencers decorate their home for the season. It seems that when fall makes its entrance, it brings something else with it, a slower pace, a crisp feeling in the air, and a sweet sense of family and belonging. I love the fall festivals, the gatherings, and all the little activities that make this time of year so special. Throughout the year, it often feels like we’re all moving at such a fast pace, trying to keep up with the demands of everyday life. But somehow, when fall arrives, there seems to be an invitation to pause. To breathe. To enjoy the season. To intentionally slow things down. If you’ve read many of my posts, you probably know that I talk often about simple living and embracing a slower pace. My desire is for all of us to stop long enough to truly live our best lives, to notice the blessings around us and appreciate the simple moments that can so easily pass us by. Fall seems to make those moments even sweeter. I love the family gatherings around the table, the laughter, the love, and the memories made over a delicious meal. There’s something special about preparing food together, sharing recipes, setting a beautiful table, and most importantly, enjoying the conversations that happen along the way. Fall reminds me that sometimes the best moments aren’t the big, elaborate ones. They’re the simple ones gathered around a table, sharing a meal, laughing with the people we love, and being present in the moment. I remember one Thanksgiving when our family had a snowball fight. Yes, you read that right, a snowball fight! LOL! I purchased some fabric snowballs to use as part of a décor display in my home for Christmas. Then I had a thought: Why not have a little fun with them? I asked my grandchildren if they would like to surprise everyone with pelting snowballs at them. Of course, they eagerly agreed! Somehow, we all ended up outside. I loaded the grandkids up with bags of snowballs, and, of course, I had to have a few in my hands too. Everyone was standing around talking when I looked at the kids and said, “Ready, set, GO!” We started throwing snowballs at everyone, and before we knew it, the whole family was laughing hysterically, chasing each other around, and having the absolute best time. It became one of those simple, unexpected moments that turned into a treasured family memory. And you know what? You don’t have to take an expensive vacation or buy something extravagant to create memorable moments. Sometimes the best memories come from the simplest ideas, the ones that make us laugh, bring us together, and get us out of our everyday routines.

This holiday season, I encourage you to think of some simple activities you can incorporate into your family gatherings. Do something that sparks conversation, brings out laughter, or maybe even makes everyone act a little silly!

Let’s make room for more laughter.
More conversation.
More togetherness.
More memories.

Let’s get back to the basics and remember that some of life’s sweetest moments don’t cost a thing.

Side Note: A Little Fall DIY

I recently decided to try my hand at a few DIY projects. You’ll quickly discover that I do not have professional DIY skills but that certainly doesn’t stop me from trying! I wanted a small, slim autumn tree for a little corner nook in my home. Most of the trees I found online were simply too large for my space. I had an olive tree that I was considering giving away, but then I thought, why not try turning it into my own fall tree? So, that’s exactly what I did! Now, I’ll be honest, it is not Kirkland’s Décor Store worthy, but I love it! And honestly, that’s what matters. It’s exactly the size and color I wanted, a thin little tree with muted brown, taupe leaves with just a hint of gold in the leaves. It fits perfectly in my little nook and gives the space just the fall feeling I was hoping for. I also decided to try making some paper mâché apples. Let’s just say… I’m learning as I go! I would use a different material for my fruit next time. I used paper towels, which was fine but a little too textured and thick for me; I wanted a more subtle look so I would use tissue paper which is thinner for my next paper mache craft.  I’ve included some pictures below so you can see how the projects turned out. They may not be perfect, but there’s something really satisfying about creating something with your own hands and seeing it become part of your home. After all, fall isn’t about perfection. It’s about slowing down, enjoying the little things, creating memories, and appreciating the beauty of the season. So, tell me, what are some of your favorite things to do in the fall? Do you decorate your home, bake your favorite fall recipes, visit festivals, enjoy a cozy evening by the fireplace, or simply love spending more time with family?

I’d love to hear what makes fall special to you!

The process for the paper mache: I put Mode Podge on the apple then put the strips of paper towel on it. I didn’t want it too thick, so I only added three layers of paper towel which after it was completed, I felt it was a little thick for my taste. Like I said earlier, I would use a thinner material next time, like tissue paper. I want to make some pears next. It would be pretty to make some gold fruit for Christmas with this process.

I hope you have an amazing week. Please consider subscribing and leave some comments. I’d love to hear from you. From my heart and home to yours.
